Aranjuez it is a mainly tourist city. The tourism is one of the main engines for the development of the city. This Royal Place and Villa, intimately bound to the Wreath offers to its visitors an immense quantity of attractions that permit to host all type of anxieties.

Aranjuez it is not only its gardens and Palaces, it is much more. Evidently it is impossible to untie our city of its historical component, of its Royal Palace, of the House of the Farmer, of the Gigs Museum or of the Prince gardens or the Island, visited all the years by hundred thousands of tourists. But there are other possibilities, may be as attractive, for different kinds of tourism.

Aranjuez it is an immense green monument. Its river, its natural environment, the historical groves, offer unique landscapes sometimes less known for the visitor. To the alternative of the historical and cultural tourism, also it can be offered to him/her that of natural or environmental tourism. The Twelve Streets, a wooded rides studding that surround the Historical Huertas of Aranjuez. Each centennial tree of those which form them is a monument by itself. Its setup, elaborated once uopn a time by the hand of the man and constituted as an unique place in the world, causes that at this time it is in procedure for its statement as Landscape of the Humanity. To recover the rides on horse by these fields is one of the challenges on those which is being working from the various administrations. The Sea of Ontígola, backuped area and of singular interest by the variety of kinds fauna and vegetable that populate it, it is other of the obligator fields to be visited.

Our river, Tajo, it is a source of life for the city. In spite of its deterioration in the last years it continues being an unquestionable attraction. The rides in boat or in piragua by its riverbed or on foot or in bicycle by its banks offer a singular captivation.

But the urban environment of the Historical Zone of Aranjuez offers also extraordinary value opportunities to the visitor. A zonel with an unique regular tracing. There are many buildings and monuments with an evident historical value as the San Carlos Hospital, the San Pascual, Alpajés and San Antonio Churches, the Ancient Quarter of Pavía, the Godoy Palace, the bullring, that in 1997 fulfilled its second centennial, etc.

In fact, some assorted attractions that bound to other factors as the gastronomic wealth, the cultural offer offered through Cultural Center lsabel of Farnesio, and other initiatives, a leisure offer in full development and the special captivation that offers this city, makes of Aranjuez an obligated place, not only of step but of pause and inn for every visitor.

Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Aranjuez is built at the left border of the Tajo. Previously there was in the same place a house - palace belonging to the Masters of Santiago.

The origins of the Palace are soared per year 1561 when Felipe II sorted its construction to the architect Juan de Herrera. Under the Austrias the chapel, the south tower and part of the central body were built. The palace suffered serious fires on years 1660 and 1665, since good part of the building was built of wood. The current structure is dated by the bourbonical era.

Felipe V ordered its outline to the architect Pedro Caro Idrogo on 1717. The main facade is a work of Giocomo Bonavia in Fernando VI time and the two lateral wings, as well as the public chapel, are a work of Sabatini to mid of the reign of Carlos III.

The ornamentation of the great building is of brick seen with sockets, angles, cornices, window frameworks, balconies and gates in Colmenar stone.

In its interior there are variuos paintings of Lucas Jordan, Vicente López and Esquivel among other. Various style furniture, clock collections, lamps and sculptures offer an idea of the importance that the successive kings gave to this palace.

Being highlighted by its interest, since by itself deserves the visit to this palace, the Saleta of Porcelain, that it was the favorite of Carlos III, modeled almost lock, stock and barrel by Giuseppe Gricci. Its walls and vaults are covered with large paraments of porcelain, screwed to an invisible wood framework. It was valued as the master work of the Factory that was ordered to be built in the Buen Retire by the king Carlos III on 1760.

Its scenes evoke fables and eastern legends of custom character.

Garden of the Parterre

It is found by the east facade of the Palace. The project of this parterre, a kind of low english garden, it was of the French gardener Esteban Boutelou. The location of its sources are dated on Fernando VII era. The main entry gated is made by two small stone houses, Luis XIV style. The first source of the garden is devoted to Hercules and its feats and it is a work of the architect Isidro González Velázquez. Behind is found the source of Ceres and finally that of the Nereidas. To its left is found the small garden of the Statues called thus by the fourteen Roman emperor busts and personages of the classic antiquity that surround it.
Garden of the Island

It is found in the one which formed by the Tajo and the small river. Its rides are surronded by the sources: the Boticaria, Hercules, Apollo, The Clock, that of Child of the Thorn, Venus, Diana and Baco. To the left is found the square of Neptune that enjoys the most valuable sculpture of the garden. By the small river there is found the waterfall known as of the Castanets by the jumping rumour that produces the water upon falling on the landings and bulky almendrones. In the Garden of the Island it exists a wide space used as auditory for theatrical and musical spectacles.
Prince's Garden

It duties his name to Carlos IV, who ordered its creation being yet the Prince of Asturias. It has an expansion of 150 hectares among the Tajo and Queen's Street, from Boats Bridge up to Queen's Bridge.

The main master gardener Esteban Boutelou was entrusted of itsconstruction, being the verja and the Chinescos a work of Juan de Villanueva.

Among its sources Narcissus highlights, a splendid work of Joaquín Dumandre, and that of Apollo, in Carrara marble.

House of the Farmer

In one of the most attractive corners of the Prince's Garden, among magnolios, maples and lindens, Carlos IV, being yet Prince of Asturias, ordered the construction of the House of the Farmer.

It's a leisure building, of newclassic style, according to a project of the architect Isidro González Velázquez, its architecture and decoration is adjusted to the pleasure and trendy by the ends of the XVIII.

It contains some paintings of Bayeu, González Velázquez and Lapelli, as well as a beautiful collection of object sumptuaries. Among its rooms one must to highlight the Platinum Cabinet, exceptional by its luxury and sumptuosity, with an authentic ostentation of gold embeddings, platinum and bronze. Within purer empire style, it is, perhaps, in its class, the most important of Europe.
